# DELETE /\<uuid>/file — Delete element file

Removes the file attached to the referenced element, as well as file related metadata from the element's properties.

The element itself is not deleted, and a new file can be attached to it afterwards with
[`POST /<uuid>/file`](/api/post-element-file.md).

> **⚠ Note**
>
> Deleting an element with [`DELETE /<uuid>`](/api/delete-element.md) already deletes its file as a side effect.
> Call this endpoint only when the element itself should be kept, just without its file.
